[-] pm_me_ur_WBC_fanmail | 1 points
still good. 509 is bad though. hangs near the end.
[-] MC_USS_Valdez | 1 points
Some of the subtitle tracks are wrong for the videos. Does anyone know what I can do to fix it?
[-] no---offense | -5 points
hey man, thanks for the upload. i checked the first episode and i think the quality could be a little bit better. any chance to get the show with bigger files?
[-] ILikeToHelp1 | 3 points
Yes, its called get the x264 release because x265 will be dead this year.
[-] no---offense | 1 points
thanks for the tip. you have a x264 megalink?
[-] Dodgesabre | 1 points
Did I miss something, why will x265 be dead this year?
Hopefully ["There was definitely higher utilization of the CPU for x265- versus x264-encoded footage. That was all using VLC…It would average about 15 percent of the load at a 1080p source." That CPU use is sure to effect battery performance: "The hotter your CPU is running, the more you're going to drain that battery over time] (http://www.streamingmedia.com/Articles/Editorial/Featured-Articles/H.265-Heres-the-Good-News-the-Bad-News-and-What-to-Expect-102124.aspx)
[-] Dodgesabre | 1 points
But, isn't that the case every time we improve the way we compress video?
CPUs get more efficient and more powerful each year, you can even decode x265 on something the size of a raspberry pi.
[-] PraiseDannyWoodhead | 2 points
The idiot thinks it has something to do with performance when in actuality if x265 disappears it will be because it is heavily patented and expensive for corporations to use. That's why none of the large streaming media providing companies have transitioned to x265 - because it would prohibitively cut into their profits in order to do so. Like the other guy said below, those same companies are all banding together to try to deliver a new format to the market this year, AV1, which is royalty-free and open so that anyone can do whatever they want with it for free. The reason that x265 is being used right now, and in high prevalence in this sub and piracy in general, is because encoders aren't corporations. File sharing is already a morally ambiguous (at best) practice, so they can just use the format for distribution for free.

heavily patented and expensive for corporations to use.
Ahh that's unfortunate, thanks for the detailed explanation.
[-] ILikeToHelp1 | 1 points
Contrary to what this sub believes and the amateur encoders who use x265 it doesn't have that much support by companies. AV1 on the other hand has companies pushing it further along so it becomes an actual thing. This is the future.
[-] Dodgesabre | 1 points
Ahh I see, thanks!
Yes, but it will take some time as I didn't encode these myself. I have yet to watch the show but have these for those who care less about image quality.
Might sound weird but if it's your first time watching I really recommend you to stick with the original 4:3 release, even if it means watching it in SD.
[-] no---offense | 2 points
that does sound weird. is there a reason to watch it 4:3? i thought they did a good job converting it to 1080p 16:9.
The series was not meant to be viewed on widescreen. Many shots feel unbalanced and sometimes you can even see tripods/cameras and whatnot. David Simon also recommends the original format better.
[-] no---offense | 1 points
okay, i get the point. the only 4:3 version i watched was highly compressed and i couldnt stand it on a big screen. maybe i get my hands on a better dvd rip. thanks
[-] no---offense | 1 points
thanks again and i know there are a lot of people looking for smaller files. i only watched the first season and i love it. i dont care much about filesize and all about image quality. so if you'll ever upload a bigger version or have a megalink, i will call my firstborn ashtodes!
Whoever is pushing this horrible H.265 format needs a kick in the nuts. It refuses to play on two laptops. Not wasting time with that bullshit.

How about you learn to research & appreciate the free content you get. Lazy downloaders
Research? Ain't nobody got time for that! People can go ahead and encode files into awkward formats. Thank god, there are mp4 versions of this and even x264. Memba when a good old avi played on any device? Yeah I memba
[-] PraiseDannyWoodhead | 9 points
The fact that you think a container has anything to do with the codec speaks volumes about why you're unable to get h265-encoded videos to play properly.
Then either your hardware ist to old to handle it or you're software is out of date. This format is becoming the new standard since with the allways increasing quality of video files we need a codec that is able to provide that kid of quality at a smaller file size.
There are plenty of other sources available out there if you can't play this. But it's not viable to use x264 or even older formats like xvid for new reencodes just because it creates problems for a hand full of people.
[-] Gargenville | 2 points
Dude just use VLC. Or Potplayer, Plex, Mplayer, Kodi, MPC-HC.. anything besides Windows Media Player or iTunes or whatever other garbage doesn't support h.265 in 2017.

Wow, sweet! Is this the new remastered for widescreen version?

It's 16:9. But the quality seems to be about the same as the old 4:3 releases I allready have, in some parts worse. I just checked the first episode and noticed even more noise in some dark scenes then in the old files.
If you want the 16:9 version go for it. But I'd still recommend the 4:3 version because the series was ment to be viewed that way.
