Look at what this sub has done to you lol. Your grumpy old man attitude is exactly what is needed for a mod of this sub. Thanks for your time and effort here.

Why does EVO still use XviD instead of x264? I always avoid their releases because of this.

And for the life of me I will never understand this way of thinking, the files look fine & they are free SMH

They do look fine in supported players, but I run a Plex server and most of my client devices are unable to direct-play Xvid, so the server ends up transcoding the video which destroys the quality.

By all means it wasn't meant to be a dig at you, I love your uploads. I was just wondering out loud. I thought h264 is widely accepted as a much better codec all around, but EVO still uses Xvid. There must be a reason.

Backward compatibility. Before x264, all dvd players and TV supported Xvid only. You will see the same trend when scene starts to move towards x265, then there will be some scene group encoding using x264 for backward compatibility.

yes 265 is better but it is a tradeoff. encoding takes more time than x264 and decoding is cpu intensive task for those devices which don't have a hardware decoder. almost all TVs from 2-3 years back don't support it and only newer 4K TV ones support the format. you will save some space, but given that storage is so cheap, i would'nt recommend it. for 4K content though x265 is the only option.

get xmedia recode and convert em. Can drag and drop as many as you want and start up a queue. The speed per file is about as fast as it would take to unzip a movie file
