For decades, fans have wanted to see Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope without its special edition makeovers. So a group of friends and enthusiasts has decided to take it upon themselves to restore an original faded 35mm print of the movie, spending thousands of their own dollars to do so. The process took many years, and has resulted in the best-yet HD version of the original theatrical cut. Following their efforts, they've decided to leak the print online for all to see.
The group behind the project has dubbed themselves Team Negative 1. They quietly released this restoration on a message board last month, calling this Star Wars print the "Silver Screen Theatrical Version". This past Tuesday, TheStarWarsTrilogy.com did an interview with the leader behind the group about the extensive restoration process. And how the team had to go frame-by-frame through the entire 35mm print to bring it back to its original glory.
This restored copy of A New Hope is the exact copy they showed in 1977. Before the Special Edition tweaks were added that have irritated fans over the years. All of the new dialogue, visuals, and CGI creatures that have been added throughout the 80s, 90s and 2000s are nowhere to be seen. And in this restored original version, Han shoots first. You'll even see that Greedo doesn't fire his blaster at all. The Silver Screen addition isn't a flawless restoration. It still has some pops, scratches and color issues. But fans claim this is the most accurate release compared to what debuted in theaters May 1977. It's not the only restored version of the movie.
There have been similar attempts bring Star Wars back to its original form. Perhaps the most infamous of these was the fan-made Despecialized Edition. With the help of many dedicated fans and video editors, an OriginalTrilogy.com user calling himself Harmy recreated the complete original, unaltered trilogy in Hi-Def using various film and video elements culled from a number of resources. The difference between Harmy's Despecialized Edition and the Silver Screen edition is that this new restoration has been completed from an intact 35mm print of the movie as its sole source of footage. George Lucas has long refused to release a restored version of the 1977 movie.

This is interesting. Can anybody comment / voice their opinion? I've always liked the despecialized versions. Is this "better"?
I have both, but prefer the Despecialized Edition's. while the SSE is the "true" movie, the Despecialized Edition is it but with less film grain and generally a cleaner picture. download both and see for your self.

Here's Harmy talking about this version: "The Silver Screen version is, in my opinion, better than the current version of the Despecialized, because it is 100% HD and 100% the original version.”

Sweet, thanks.
How is this different from the 25gb one posted a few months earlier?
the 25gb version is version 1.0, team negative1 released a blu-ray which is version 1.6, seeing as this is a blu-ray rip i wanna say it's version 1.6
just looked at my 1.6 from myspleen and its 37.5gb. so this is either and older version or a compressed version

Is there anyway you can repost/rehost this? It was taken down with less than 3 gb left for me to download.

Any chance of another link to this? I hit the cap and by the time my timer was up it was gone.

Same story here with me. I got to 96% after going through two waiting periods, only to have the fateful "Your Mega account does not have sufficient storage" popup appear (when it's completely empty) and then I couldn't resume it. Next time, I'll dump it into my Mega cloud drive, where there's no download quota limit until I want to transfer files to my PC. :-(

You a boss! Already downloaded them before so just here to say, these are well worth the download if you plan to hold onto the files forever. Straight up, bluray quality without the cgi. ~54gb total but like I said, well worth it. Watched all 3 for the first time last week and the experience was so good. I had seen parts of New Hope at a friend's house with the added in CGI and the original version is so much better.
Just one question, do you have subtitle files that sync up well with these? I download a bunch of different ones from subscene but they all ended up desynced at one point or another and constantly syncing them in VLC while watching was a drag.

Just checked, not in ep 4 but are there for 5 and 6. Could be because ep 4 is not an iso like the other two. I saw there were no subs for ep 4 and thought the same would be true for 5 and 6.
