10bit encoding does not help reduce banding, it prevents it from getting worse. Most sources except for 4K Bluray come in 8bit natively, re-encoding them to 10bit does not improve anything.
10bit has nothing to do smaller file sizes, it's HEVC/H.265 codec that reduces file sizes compared to H.264.
You're correct about the banding, I probably should've worded it better.
The file size thing is just something I remember from encoders discussing it and noting how switching to 10-bit had an effect on their filesizes. It could be wrong though and was just due to other settings. But this was before h.265 became widely used so it's not related to that.

Good summary video. Banding is one of the most noticeable issues that 10bit helps prevent, which is why it became so popular for anime encoding.
One thing he doesn't mention is that 10bit has the added benefit of resulting in smaller filesizes for videos.
