Hmm, seems the truth is somewhere in between. For some reason I was remembering the Pixar movies (the pre-2006 ones anyway, before the Disney buyout) as being completely produced by them with Disney just distributing, which is mostly true, but after going back and reading a bit it seems that the relationship between the companies was more complicated than that and there were a lot of negotiations regarding the films.
