[META] can we finally get a sticky for megadownloader? | Megalinks MegaDB [META] can we finally get a sticky for megadownloader?

I don't think I have to elaborate much on it. Many ask for a bypass, I get tons of messages etc etc. MEGAdownloader has been flawless so far and is definitely a must have.

edit: or at least a sticky about the bypassing.

Everyone seems to have a good opinion on megadownloader, but is it actually safe? My browser as well as all my firewalls block the download. Then when I configure them to allow the download - windows blocks the exe from running. Why do my browser, security programs and OS think this program so dangerous?

your browser block what? the initial download of megadownloader itself? or, when you have installed MEGAdownloader, the execution of the program is blocked? where did you download megadownloader? is it a straight .exe? what does windows say when you start it?

I understand your concern, but many programs, OS etc block .exe just because it as unknown .exe, so it might be good/useful to add the exact messages (screenshot is great) to clarify what is exactly going on.

I have malware software, 360 security and I had bitdefender and I'm not having any problems and/or warnings at all and I have been downloading 300GB through it. Its not even close to be dangerous at all.

Sam doesn't seem to have a grasp on what his machine is telling him. I ran it through virus total, it's clean.

yeah, I dont get how he got 9 upvotes for that. It means that there are people, who have no clue about what the computer is actually telling them, thats why I asked for a screenshot or something comparable. megadownloader is absolutey risk-free.

chrome blocked the download indicating the program was a potential risk, I changed the settings to allow the download. After this when running the .exe - windows blocked the installation as the publisher was not trusted. I said fuck it and ran it anyway by running it through the admin command prompt and it worked just fine and I have been using it for my downloads now. I was just wondering why it was blocked if it was completely safe and you were no help.

where did you download it? which windows? I think its just because it is an "unknown exe" and windows just generally shits its pants when it comes to an unknown exe.

I got it from http://megadownloaderapp.blogspot.com/, and I have windows 10. Even after this issues downloading I couldn't get the exe to install a windows message popped up saying the app had been blocked from running for my protection. I messed with the properties and security settings of the exe but nothing worked. I ended up copying the file path of the exe and pasting it into the admin command prompt which allowed the file to run. So if anyone else is having this issue - using the command prompt will solve it.

After getting it installed and working, I have to say this program is legit and I can now bypass the download caps, which have gotten to be ridiculously small for me (like 5gigs every six hours or something). Although the download speed seems to be slower than usual, but still worth it overall.

thats pretty odd. got the same setting, never a message, but then I have my windows defender blabla deactivated bc its shite anyways :p

but well, eventually you got it running for ya and everyone else seems to, that's why Im asking for a sticky about megadownloader.

yeah thats what I have been using, I do run into a 'bandwidth limit exceeded" problem sometimes but other then that it works good (is there a way to fix that). Not sure how it compares to megadownloader

Megadownloader doesn't exceed bandwidth which is great.

oh shit really? does it work for Mac?

I do like megadownloader for when I do more than 10gb, but my biggest problem with it is that my speeds are horrible inconsistent and a lot of the time it is less than a 1/10th of what it should be.

Are you changing any of the download settings? In the bottom right of the main configuration window you can increase how many connections per file you want: http://i.imgur.com/NKqdflE.png

The defaults are like 5 downloads and 3 connections per file and I was only getting 400KB/s, but I did 10/10 and did a limit of 5000KB/s and I was hitting that max speed the whole time while downloading 10 files at once(but they all shared the 5MB/s pipe).

Increase the amount of connections per file and try again.

I don't think that has much to do with megadownloader itself tbh.

I think it has. If I download via Jdownloader 2, I usually get arround 1.7 MB/s, which is the absolute max for my connection. On MegaDownloader I get 1.4 MB/s as a max, but that is a rare occasion. If we should get a sticky at all, it rather should be for Jdownloader since it is free, offers waay more control and features and it´s downloadspeed is super consistent. I really dont want to downtalk MegaDownloader, but it still has a long way to go.

does Jdownloader allow you to bypass the bandwith limit?

permalink

[-] GerdPferd88 | 2 points | Dec 12 2016 19:13:44

Yes it does, you just need to set up an automatic reconnect, which will give you an new IP adress as long as your router supports dynamic IP.

[-] thenicob | 1 points | Dec 13 2016 00:47:33

yeah well but then the internet connection will be interrupted, or not?

[-] GerdPferd88 | 1 points | Dec 13 2016 07:34:47

For about 5 seconds. I guess it depends.

permalink

[-] thenicob | 1 points | Dec 15 2016 20:49:19

well, disconnect is disconnect. megadl doesnt do that.

permalink

[-] GerdPferd88 | 2 points | Dec 18 2016 19:02:46

It does. Uses the same technique.

[-] koopadekid | 2 points | Dec 12 2016 15:24:04

That's pretty much like how it is for me except my max is 7.7 MB/s but im lucky to get 400KB/s so it's pretty frustrating.

Downloading straight from mega usually maxes out at ~2MB/s, with Megadownloader, I can consistently get 35MB/s.

permalink

[-] MegaSmile | 1 points | Dec 13 2016 14:57:33

I get around 35mb/s with megadownloader and around 70mb/s with idm, it's good but not perfect.
