Guess I don't have to worry about downloading this then. I just grabbed these recently from torrents. They included a bunch of Russian audio tracks but I muxed them out. All 720p and 'version 2.5' (which is the latest official version).

I don't know what kind of quality they are, all I know is that since Harmy originally did his editing in 720p, there's nothing to be gained by getting a '1080p' version such as OP's.

Taking content that is 720p and up scaling it doesn't improve it's quality. Imagine a picture that is 1280x720 and then stretch it to 1920x1080. Whichever program you used has to add pixels that it thinks would fit best to make the image 1080p. Same with movies when you upscale them.

Which would you download, a 5gb 720p file or a 6gb 720p upscaled to 1080p file?

What he meant is why didn't Harmy make their version in 1080p and why are there so many 720p uploads here.
A1: Because he had to mesh old, lower-quality footage and BRRips into a single video file without jarring transitions. A2: Many people use MEGA over torrents because they're on a capped connection and perhaps aren't allowed to use p2p programs. 720p videos weigh less without taking away too much.

Bandwidth/data caps? Even I watch everything in 720p just because of the data cap. Prior to that, 1080p all day. Additionally smaller file size may seem more attractive to people. Just as people watch upscaled Yify content (I do too for movies I just want to get through), same with 720p. If it's a movie you're not watching for the cinematic experience (like Interstellar or Fury Road), then you might as well just get a watchable quality file.

George Lucas has made many changes to the films over the years, adding CG effects, changing the editing of scenes, etc. These have been very controversial and fans wanted an unaltered original theatrical version to be released, but Lucas was stubbornly against it (apart from one low-quality version released as a DVD bonus feature). For more detail and history you can read the wikipedia article.

In the absence of an official high quality release then, fans turned to editing together their own (i.e. Harmy's Despecialized Editions). Due to the variety of source qualities involved, Harmy released this in 720p (as of version 2.5). He plans to release in 1080p though for the version 3.0 he is still working on.
