[QUESTION] MegaDownloader | Megalinks MegaDB [QUESTION] MegaDownloader

So my internet's bandwidth speed limit is 1.5MB. That's just how it is. (I'm in Australia and i don't have NBN) But with MegaDownloader it's averaging about 2.5 - 4.0MB per second? I'm really happy with this but i was just curious as to how that's possible and if this happens to anybody else?

I've heard of downloaders being very sneaky when reporting download speed. What they can do is compress the file on-server (before you get to it), then when you download it they calculate the download rate from the uncompressed | Megalinks MegaDB uncompressed file size, rather than reporting the actual size of the compressed archive. And decompress it when it gets to you. It's super sneaky and I believe a blatant lie to users, as that is not the actual download rate.

A good way to check is to use Task Manager to check the actual download rate of MegaDownloader. If it's different to what Mega's reporting, well there you go, MegaDownloader is lying. If Task Manager is actually showing such a fast speed, then huzzah!

Dumb question: are you absolutely sure you've got 12mbps on your contract with your ISP and not 32mbps? I remember having the same issue with a p2p. I usually downloaded at 1.2Mb/s, but when torrenting, it got to 2.0Mb/s, which led me to checking the contract and it was actually 16mbps, not 12.

Could it be a bug in the program? The displayed speed isn't the actual speed you're getting? Mine also shows faster than what my max speed is.

Is there a way to monitor the speed externally from MegaDownloader?

You could check the network tab in your resource monitor. (assuming you're on Windows)

That is very interesting, I have noticed the same on my own 1.5MBps connection... Never exceeds 1.5MBps on speed tests and other downloads, but for some reason downloading from Mega through MegaDownloader is an exception.

I'm loving it. But i wonder if there is any way to get these speeds for anything else?

I've noticed everything from .5MB to 18MB on my 15MB/s connection

It is possible to dowload with multiple connections. It is the same like donwloading with multiple computers. If you add up their download speed, it is higher than you single connection max, due to your overall connection being stressable (if that is a word). Mega does just that, just from one computer. It connects to the download server multiple times and each connection is seen as an individual which the programm adds up to one on your computer. I usually get a maximum of 1.5 MB/s, but on Jdownloader 2 or Megadownloader I get up to 1.8. I guess the maximun benefit depends on the type and quality of your connection. Sorry if it is explained really damm clunky, but english is not my native language :/

But his ISP can only provide him with 12Mbits. Regardless of the number of connections, his speed will remain the same if not worse
