I love this community and have been a subscriber for many months now.

Unfortunately, MEGA has begun capping my download limit at 3GB/day. This is really frustrating.

I'm a graduate student and i can't really afford €5 per month subscription fee.

Are there any simple ways to circumvent this data limit? I've tried VPNs but my university's network won't allow them.

Yup, the Megadownloader bypasses any bandwidth limits. It's great.
Got the bandwidth limit message yesterday saying I did 10GB and that I had to wait 6 hours unless I signed up for premium blah blah blah.

While looking for a way around this, I came across that second link you posted.
Followed the steps and it worked.

Then I realized that I didn't even need to use the streaming server function that that guide tells you to use.

I copied a link to a mega folder to my clipboard and it automatically imported everything into megadownloader and started downloading. 45GB downloaded without issue and I didn't have to go and paste the links 1 by 1 into the streaming server thing.

Definitely recommend it if you get the bandwidth limit message!

I think mods should make the megadownloader a sticky. Its literally copy paste (you could even copy a wall of text and the program picks out the megalinks) and no bandwith limit

I heard theres virus in the Internet Download Manager and the Megadownloader? Is this true? DO you see anything different or slower in your PC? Thanks!

I don't use IDM, but as far as I know there's nothing in the megadownloader (I guess it depends on where you get it from).

My virus scanner/malwarebytes has never had an issue with it.

So with only megadownloader you dont have a bandwith limit?

Thanks, despite a somewhat shady download site for it, this is actually working for me where jdownloader wasn't.

Privateinternetaccess.com VPN over TCP on port 443.

[-] TitaniumWhiteGhost | 2 points | Oct 22 2016 02:38:03

Uh, anything else on how to use this? Cause I changed PIA's settings to match this, but I'm still getting the 10GB limit.

Do I need to run my browser in a private mode or not accept any type of cookies, etc.?

VPN isn't going to affect any data limit. It just circumvents blocked content and provides a private connection that can't be eavesdropped on.

Edit: Realized context of this post... if the data limit is per-ip (ie you are not using as a guest not logged in), you can just switch VPN servers every time you hit the limit. You'd want incognito for that so it can't fingerprint you.

OP literally said VPN's aren't an option

Yes because his network blocks them. They cant block tcp port 443 because it's https. I use this exact method myself on networks that block VPNs.

If you don't mind me asking, can you tell me how that works?

permalink

[-] ineedmorealts | 5 points | Oct 21 2016 19:11:59

The ELI5 is https and (most) VPNs are encrypted tcp streams meaning without really fancy hardware you can't tell them apart and therefore can't block just the VPN

If they're policy states "do not try to circumvent this" then simply don't. You risk your education.

Same with employment. I would never do that on a work computer. On my phone/tablet connected to a guest wifi? Sure, VPN/tunnel your way into security.

If you own the device, it's your safety decision to make and not at their discretion. They can of course ban you from the network, but it's very unlikely they will detect the VPN on 443. A school competent enough to do that wouldn't have an inane policy agains VPNs.

Workplaces are different - they are paying you to play by their rules not the other way around.

If the network is poorly designed, this very well may work.

Megadownloader works beautifully for me, no bandwidth issues. Jdownloader interestingly just came up with a "bandwidth limit exceede" error, hope that gets fixed soon.

Install Chrome plugin for Mega.

Nope, doesn't really help. In fact, that did nothing for myself. Maybe improved download speeds by a fraction but that's it

Cyber ghost VPN works great on the free version for just mega (they blocked p2p though). It's unmetered but it will time out after a while, but just reconnect

Another way I download is through Tor. It lets you scramble your IP address so they can't see where I'm downloading from so they can't stop me.

permalink

[-] ineedmorealts | 4 points | Oct 21 2016 19:13:18

That is not at all how tor works.

Tor proxies you thru several nodes. It's completely possible to block (But they're are ways to unblock it)

permalink

[-] Dude036 | 1 points | Oct 21 2016 20:35:06

True, but through the nodes, you have the ability to download from a different IP. yes?
