Can I get in trouble via my ISP for downloading mega links? What if I use a VPN?

No. Mega uses end to end encryption so your ISP can't ever see what it is you are downloading. this subreddit mostly exists so people without VPNs can share content.

now if you upload content, you really don't need to use a VPN there as well, the only problem is if your accounts gets banned multiple times, i don't know if mega IP blacklists people from making new accounts. either way, just rename the file to something similar to the title, keep the encryption key in the comments/textpost, and all should be fine :D

is it legal to download stuff from this subreddit? i would say no, (i'm no law expert by any means) but there's no way anyone could ever catch you so it hardly matters.

I see. How is mega able to operate as a site what with all the hub-bub about torrenting and all?

mega gets tons of money from plenty of legal sources. they are quite a big cloud storage service with pretty good prices actually. from individuals to small and medium sized businesses, mega makes enough money from their fast, end to end encrypted (which is a huge plus for tons of people's needs), and just good cloud storage. and anyone can make an account for 50GB free and still get end to end encryption. that's what makes it THE BEST option for non VPN file sharing.

mega runs out of new zeland, and that makes it so they don't have to deal with US copyright stuff as much, but they will still delete an account if proven to have copyrighted material. (chances are still kinda low on that if you stay smart)

now it says here: "You may not upload, download, store, share, display, stream, distribute, e-mail, link to, transmit or otherwise make available any files, data, or content that infringes any copyright or other proprietary rights of any person or entity."

so you could keep copyrighted stuff in your account legally, just don't share it. and that's what a lot of people do. you can import files from other people's mega accounts. so when i go to "batman the dark night rises" i can click add to my cloud drive, and even if that uploader's account gets shut down, you will still have a copy in your drive, ready to be linked on the subreddit again if you wish. (at least that's my understanding. if anyone sees fault in what i said please point it out)
