[Question] What are the Repercussions of sharing? | Megalinks MegaDB [Question] What are the Repercussions of sharing?

Hey guys, I have wanted to share for a long time but if I'm being honest I don't really want to get into trouble nor do I really want to go through a VPN or anything. What are the repercussions of sharing content on here? I'm more likely to be posting music if that matters.

If you upload good content that you enjoy you will get Karma in exchange.

There's a recent case where someone on reddit uploaded a track from the Suicide Squad soundtrack before it's release and apparently there were attempts to issue a subpoena for their IP. This case is kind of specific because they feel that was the main source for the leak, so if you're sitting on something that hasn't reached the world yet I would take a lot of precautions.

Edit: Source

From what I understand: Mega is encrypted so people can't detect what you have stored. That said, links can get taken down, so people (myself included) have started naming the files in odd ways as well as separating the link and the decryption key. There's also some worries about who controls Mega, but nothing known has happened due to that.

Pretty sure they don't delete by name but rather by hash. So if two files share the same hash and one gets reported and removed, that hash is "banned" and will be taken down.

I wouldn't start a release group or open a streaming site without vpn but I don't think anyone will come after you if you share some stuff on here. There are millions of ways files get shared and it's not worth it to go after every single uploader on every single site. But I don't know how much stuff gets downloaded on here. Could only be a hand full of downloads, could be thousands. Some stats from an uploader would be nice.

This is something for the general discussion thread.

if you are worried, post stuff to reddit on an alt using tor. you can upload to mega as much as you want and not get a DMCA notice in the mail. but if they find your account has publicly available copyrighted content, the most that would happen is your account gets closed. easy. make another one. (i don't know if they IP ban for repeat offenders though)

and your account probably wont get closed as long as you remember to rename the file to something a searching bot wont find. misspellings, random dashes, adding numbers, these can all help. and keeping the decryption key ONLY on reddit, helps a TON.

Where are you from? In a few countries I would recommend to stay away from that, in a few countries you shouldn't worry at all. The Us I would put 90% in the don't worry category, Germany for example on the other hand in the 90% don't do it category.
