Secondly, we've had a couple of people PM us about the new rule we added about requests. They thought redirecting requests to r/megarequests, a substantially smaller sub isn't helping as most of the posts go unanswered there.
This is a valid concern and owing to that, we've created a stickied thread for requests here, which was moderately successful.
So u/vcdupper and I thought we can have a discussion thread about MEGA and this subreddit in particular, where you guys can post your opinion/suggestions/questions about such issues.
[-] rednight39 | 10 points
The request thread(s) should be more organized. Maybe one for TV and one for movies, with each top-level reply being a genre. Then people can post requests where they belong and it'll be easier to sort through?
It's a work in progress, I had the idea, talked to /u/indigo6alpha & here it is, we will work on organizing it, & I do think we should do something different with the req thread, it is a bit all over the place.
This is exactly why I thought this thread would be a good idea, to get user input to better our community. :)
[-] rednight39 | 3 points
Yeah, it's hard to wade through after a while. I'm sure y'all will think of a way to make it more manageable. :)
[-] madwilliamflint | 6 points
Big ups to all of the uppers and admins.
I have a suggestion for a request thread.
The request thread is sticky.
The request thread is weekly. It can be titled as such. Example: [OFFICIAL REQUEST THREAD] Week 4: 8/22/2016 - 8/28/1016. There are lots of ways to name it. The point here is that it would be a weekly thread.
Users can post one request in the thread per week. I do not know if there is a way to set a formal constraint for this or not. Maybe users will just have to be on their best behavior to achieve this.
If a user request is not filled a user may choose to make the same request in a following week's thread. Or not. Whatever.
Previous weekly request threads can be transferred to megarequests. Hopefully there is an easy way for an admin to move a thread between subreddits.
Previous weekly threads moved to megarequests are locked to prevent further comments.
The advantage of this is that users of megalinks have a specific way to request content that is timely. Older requests are archived in megarequests so content providers can go looking through there to see what kind of requests were made in addition to the current week's request thread in megalinks. It would require weekly update for admins but would not, I presume, be an unbearable amount of work.
My 0.02 anyways. Your conversion rate may vary. :)
If you're tired of the same old red & white look of reddit, now you can do something about it. https://userstyles.org/styles/browse/reddit
Can the posters of movies and shows specify the file format in the title? "MKV", "MP4". I ask this because I'm using the MEGA app on iPhone and it only allows MP4 files to be played.
[-] anastusfocht | 1 points
[OFFTOPIC] MKV is a container/wrapper. Try using Handbrake to convert. Simple profiles, fast and almost idiot-proof. Otherwise get VLC for iOS. I can play almost any format and container file and almost any audio format on my iphone.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-ios.html
The problem is that, due to iOS architecture and shit, apps cannot download videos to the internal storage. The MEGA app can download anything, but can only be opened within the app, or you can connect it to your PC via iTunes and copy them to your PC.
[-] SpatialWheel | 2 points
you can download files on the MEGA app and then you can copy it to any app on your phone that allows file sharing. you have to click the share button and some apps will show up and select the media player you want.
[-] wigsnatcher | 1 points
A full title would also be great, rather than abbreviations and initials.
[-] [deleted] | 3 points
Thank you for this subreddit! after kickass torrents was taken down, this has been my go to place!
[-] jodorowsthesky | 3 points
just a minor thing : seeing that almost all of the links i post continually get downvoted over time (even the ones i posted weeks/months ago while still being accessible) i was wondering if it's about the quality of content or format that i am using or something i am just not aware of.i'm confused...
[-] aznsensazn29 | 3 points
Does this count as torrenting? Meaning is it safe to do on say, a university's wifi?
Torrents are basically peer-to-peer sharing which requires a connection to you from other people and a connection from you to other people. It is the connection from you to everyone else that is the problem area legally. That is where the sharing happens, potentially of protected material (copyright, trademark, other infringements on intellectual property, etc...).
Mega is basically a standard download. You are requesting data from somewhere, in this case mega.nz. You are not sharing it. You are not connecting to other peers. All is good.
On a side note, if your University has a problem with downloading from Mega their network would block you from visiting / downloading from it.
[-] GhostHawk666 | 3 points
I work at a university and our students get popped with DMCA complaints on the order of about a dozen per day. Not recommended under any circumstances. P2P is the "big pond" and full of fish. And the DMCA Copyright Cops are using gill nets there.
[-] redditismyhomenow | 2 points
I don't know how possible this is as i'm new to reddit and have never been a mod. But is there any way to make it so requests are allowed but are limited to one request post per account each day or each week? That way people can make their requests like they used to which seemed the best way to get requests filled, but it also means the subreddit won't be completely filled up with request posts all the time.
Another possible idea would be only allowing a 'trade' so you can make a request but only if you have contributed to the subreddit. So say one request for every post you upload, or one for every 5 posts you upload. That would allow people to make requests like before but act as a greater incentive for people to upload.
Well I've still got the problem that I reach the infamous bandwidth limit constantly. I then turn on the VPN, restart MEGAsync and continue at a much lower speed, until the VPN IP also reaches its limit. So that's annoying.
Other than that, I must agree, the fulfillment rate of requests was much higher before. I would maybe suggest to make a new request thread weekly or something like that, although I'm not sure that would help too much.
I'm still really happy to have this sub though, and I hope I'll be able to enjoy it for many more months.
One more small thing: Can we establish it so that I can distinguish cam footage from bluray from web etc.?
[-] Yellowshirt83 | 1 points
Try changing your VPN to USA that might work.
The free VPN I use doesn't allow to choose countries, that's a paid feature. Do you have any VPN to suggest?
[-] Yellowshirt83 | 1 points
Thanks for the link, but all of those are the high quality paid ones with super privacy and whatnot. I'm just looking for a free one that allows me to circumvent the bandwidth limit.
[-] Yellowshirt83 | 1 points
Try the firefox section on the sub maybe that'll help.

I've tried using Jdownloader for months now and it never works for me, maybe you can help me out: I always get "Temporarily not available" whenever I try to download anything off mega.
[-] [deleted] | 1 points
[deleted]
I also have JDownloader 2, the newest version (I reinstalled it to be sure). Actually I always get that message whenever I want to download anything from mega through JDownloader.
I tried google, according to the JDownloader forums this usually means the servers of the hoster are down, which is obviously not the case here. There are several others there with the same problem as me, but none with a solution.
This is really getting annoying :(
Then again, you can't complain about things you don't pay for, can you.

[-] DwightPoop | 2 points
Is MEGA less safe than other site like rapidgator or uploaded ?
[-] indigo6alpha | 3 points
Absolutely not. The end-to-end encryption that MEGA provides blows all the other file-hosting/sharing sites out of the water. From the contents of the file to its name is decrypted in your browser (or any other client you're using).
[-] DwightPoop | 2 points
Thanks ! I was dubious due to the fact that we don't see a lot of MEGA links in DDL website
[-] GerdPferd88 | 2 points
Is it possible for a mod to delete requests? Because the request thread is is filled with 20 days old request which are either met or just outdated. Would it be possible that if someones request is met, the uploader pm`s a mod to delete the reyuest, or if it is not important anymore, the requester deletes his post? Maybe there can be a limited time on how long a request should exist as well? Please excuse the odd formulation, english is not my mothertounge :)
[-] steveshotz | 2 points
I'd like to consider starting uploading. How safe is it? I torrent a lot of shit and have for years and have had trouble. Is there any types of precaution? Can I just upload copyright stuff easy peasy?
[-] [deleted] | 2 points
what's up with mega? It's taking forever to log me into my account?? Not sure if I should be asking this here though...
[-] TheOiulkji | 1 points
It's being weird for me also, I've been unable to access my files all day. The website just takes ages to login then does nothing, or loads the red circle then does nothing like someone below has mentioned. Sometimes you'll get to the "requesting account data" page and then it'll sit there forever.
The mobile app actually gives the error "Servers are too busy. Please wait." though, so it does seem to be an issue with their servers.
edit:it's working now
Is it proper to put decryption keys in a linked website?
Example: I post a link to content here which doesn't include the decryption key. I add a comment to the post which does not have the key in it, but rather a link to some other site, where the key can be found.
I could put the key at the end of a lengthy chain of hosts like YourSerie does. This doesn't seem right to me. One of the things that I enjoy about the content here is that I do not have to jump through hoops to get to Mega.
[-] indigo6alpha | 3 points
It's perfectly safe to post the key in the comments (like most of us do), but if you need that extra layer of protection, you can host it on one of the plain-text hosting sites like pastebin. As long as the key isn't hidden behind a series of URL shorteners (like you described), it shouldn't be a problem.
Guys I Need the Mega Link Of MATLAB 32 bit Version as the torrents are down I'm now totally depending on the reddit and MEGA Combo please someone give me

Has anyone thought of a good way to mark links as dead? Could be something simple like message mods who use flair, or something elaborate like a google docs form.
[-] shyaggressor | 1 points
how to get decryption key guys? Sorry i m a noob
[-] Yellowshirt83 | 1 points
Usually in the post or the comments from OP.
i put in a request in the request sub, not even a single upvote or a downvote, nothing happened. I think a weekly request thread is a pretty solid plan
[-] MyOtherNameIsShorter | 1 points
I think an approach similar to /r/GuessTheMovie or /r/randomactsofpizza would be best. Have one subreddit for requests and for posts, that allows the user to filter posts.

still got this?
Does anyone know how to download the files using megasync directly? Right now I have to resort to importing the folder to my mega, generating the links individually before being able to download using megasync
[-] ruralcricket | 1 points
I have the MegaSync tool installed on my Windows box (sits in the system tray). Starts downloading within seconds of be imported into my cloud account.
Megasync has a download option where you can paste links in, they don't have to be from your account either. this should work for downloading directly instead of importing. Also if you still want to import stuff in case it gets removed too quickly just use a synced folder to queue your downloads
Can there be a rule against debate unrelated to uploading?
I noticed there was a uploader who posted a GoT censored version, that deleted his account because of someone who didn't get why anyone would censor body parts but not violence. There was a whole internet debate there, and it wasn't very pretty.
After all that, I don't think anyone's going to upload anything that's censored for fear of being crapped on. It seems like a shame that this sub would shun certain uploads, when others could enjoy them. Could we do something about this?
I'd say that anyone could still comment about things unrelated, however if debates like in your example happen, that's mostly miscommunication (I.e bad title or other info) and I think people complaing should simply be reported
[-] HelveticaBOLD | 0 points
Personally, I don't want to have to double-check that an upload isn't altered from its original form. Unofficial/fan edits belong elsewhere if you ask me.
There's HD cams, DVD rips, SD web rips, 720p, 1080p, 4k, Bluray rips, 8 bit, 10 bit, HEVC, Complete/Collector's/Ultimate edition rips, and restored versions (check Team Negative's Star Wars restoration, The Godfather Coppola restoration, etc.) - as well as plenty of other variables I'm forgetting.
If the word "censored" in the title doesn't give it away, then perhaps you should pay more attention to the title - there's enough nuanced variations that if you're not paying attention, you're probably downloading the wrong version.
If you don't think unofficial stuff should be here, there's plenty of other fan restorations here that you shouldn't like either.
I think that there is room for everything as long as it is properly identified. Theatrical version vs extended version vs unrated version vs director's cut are all pretty common release types for a film these days. They are all fine, if they are what you are looking for. You know that they are what you want because they should be properly identified. If the upload is not what you are looking, because it is the wrong version or the wrong encoding or the wrong whatever, just ignore the upload and move on.
The takeaways here are to properly identify uploads and for everyone to play nicely in the sandbox.
[-] HelveticaBOLD | 0 points
And? I still think unofficial edits belong elsewhere. This position is no less valid than your insistence that "moral debate" doesn't belong here. This is a zero-sum argument.
It's interesting that you only decided to voice your objections about a censored show, and not about any restorations - or any other unofficial works. That's all I'll say about that.
Your reason for not wanting unaltered shows is still horrible, with all the fine-tune variables of encoding.
[-] HelveticaBOLD | 0 points
You're assuming I would prefer restorations be here as well. Never ind the fact that a restored representation of an official version of a film or show is pretty dramatically different in execution and intent from some fan-made, heavily-altered edit.
You're assuming I would prefer restorations be here as well
You haven't complained about those. You still aren't complaining about those.
restored representation of an official version of a film or show
And this is a censored representation of an official show? Even the restoration is literally an edited version of each frame, and took parts from both the original and the bluray in the release. It's not a one source, objectively decided one-done deal.
You seem to discredit one and praise the other. I don't really care, except that's from personal belief, not from an objective standpoint.
fan-made
And the restoration is...?
altered edit
Again, so's the restoration. You're drawing lines where there aren't any.
[-] HelveticaBOLD | 1 points
Nice cherry-picking. You have no argument.
My argument stands from three comments ago. Your reason for not liking these uploads is laughable. Reasons for that is listen -twice- above.
[-] HelveticaBOLD | 1 points
Take your weird, creepy morals and fuck yourself. Does that about settle this? Fuck. Off.
I want to share some of my tv show episodes with a family member that's far away. Is MEGA safe to use this way?
[-] indigo6alpha | 1 points
Yes it is. And as long as you don't share the links on public forums, the chances of them getting taken down is very much impossible.
For movies can we have a flair or at least info regarding the audio quality I very much prefer 5.1 audio and have horrendously slow internet. Just downloaded 3GB worth of ninja turtles to find out it's in stereo :-(
[-] indigo6alpha | 2 points
A while ago, I thought about adding a rule asking posters to share metadata of everything they post, but so many people share links they find on warez sites, which might not provide such info. So one solution would be to ask the poster or other readers who've downloaded the file to share that info.
[-] LucasLovesListening | 1 points
What can we do to ensure this sub never gets taken down? This sub is great for so many more reasons than content. It feels like a community.
[-] Cartmanishere | 1 points
I have a question. I have a few links that offer some content that I want to share. But I cannot import it into my account and share because my free 50GB is full (making another account or upgrading it is not viable). In that case, can I share the links here directly ?
[-] indigo6alpha | 1 points
What makes you say making another account isn't viable?
[-] Cartmanishere | 1 points
I already have made more than 5 accounts. I just think it's too much to handle. If need be, I'll make more. I was just wondering if I could share the links directly under the circumstances.
I have over 200
[-] Cartmanishere | 3 points
I very recently joined the MEGA so you could say that I'm a bit unexperienced. I would appreciate if you could give me any tips on how to manage these many accounts.
I use yandex.com for the emails because they don't require any real information & do not require text message verification, they let you do a captia & once the drive is full I screenshot the drive & label the screenshot the email name & keep all the screenshot in 1 folder so if I need to know what's on [email protected] I only need click the pic.
[-] Cartmanishere | 2 points
That is indeed a nice system. I'll just make some more accounts then. Thanks.
Is mega down or what? It loads up the red circle then doesn't do anything.

There is a 45 minute episode on VICE that I would like to download to my computer, but I have no Idea how. I figure it would be similar to downloading a video from Netflix. Does anyone know how I could go about doing this?

Is there any chance we can please get a rule about using spaces over full stops when formatting your post name? It makes it very frustrating trying to search for certain things and using the text for other purposes. The only reason those titles have the full stops in them is because browsers and torrents have hard trouble formatting spaces properly, we don't have this issue using MEGA and Reddit, so there is no need to keep that kind of formatting.
I want to start using mega and hava a question. I import the files to my own MEGA drive from site like yourserie.com. If original files is deleted, how to become my import file? Is it also deleted or survive?
jdownloader 2 doesnt work with mega links anymore with new mac os sierra which is stupid, when i copy the mega link into jdownloader it says its a unkown package, worked great with el capatain

I really feel like we need a /r/megasoftware subreddit.
First off, maaaaad appreciation to all the mods, this sub is a great time/life(at times)-saver!! 2nd, to all the uploaders, thank you loads too, wouldn't be megalinks w/o your links,hehe, and 3rd, to all else who keep the sub active in any way, much power to you,live long! Now that all has been 'rendered to Ceaser' :D, I was wondering if among the Posting Rules, No. 4...;
"
In addition to the mandatory tagging of the post titles IE: [TV] - [MOVIE] you also MUST format your titles correctly when making a request or posting media IE: "Name of the Movie, Year, and Quality" manner for Movies, and "Name of the TV Show, Season & Episode Number, & Quality" for TV shows, so that our subtitle bot can find subtitles for your post easily."
...it were possible to add SIZE to that list? i.e;
[TV] Agents.Of.S.H.I.E.L.D.Season.3.Complete.WEB-DL.720p.X264-Pahe.In

I have a question, if I share a file in my Mega and then it is removed because the anti-piracy terms then it will be removed even in my cloud? I don't post anything here only because of this doubt.
Sometimes when I play x265 .mkv files my screen gets all grey and pixelated, rendering the movie/show unwatchable.
I have VLC 2.2.4
I don't know much about codecs in general but if someone could give me some idea on where to start trouble shooting I'm pretty good at following technical directions. Tried a few fixes found by googling the problem (disabled hardware accelleration, increased file caching to 10000ms). Still no luck.
I was wondering, I recently got a movie from a dump in 1080p, x265, and it shows a poster for the movie in File Explorer in windows 8. I was wondering how to do the same thing with my video files. Also, on my windows 7 machine, those posters do not show up, so I'm wondering that even if I figure it out, is it only going to be useful on one machine. Thanks.

I think you guys are doing great here and the request thread was/is a great idea that gave people a wider variety, much like /u/vcdupper thread on where he gets his content.
Maybe you can turn the request thread into a bi-weekly or monthly thread? or lock it once it reaches a certain number of comments? so it is easier for people to look through and then delete comments that have been fulfilled.
