Former mod of /r/Dexter here, please don't watch the last 1~2 seasons.

You'll thank me later. The first 3 seasons are the same level of quality as breaking bad or Game of Thrones. The writing is perfection. The last 2 seasons are the same level of quality as Cory in the house or big bang theory. The producers killed this show so they could have an option to... wait for it... make a spin off. Greedy fucks.

I agree with everything except I also think season 4 is on par with 1-3. Everything after was steady decline

Oh yes, season four is great, but the first 3 were fucking epic. Like I said, the show is worth watching up to at least season 6.

Im so glad I found this. I bought season 3 used from FYE and disc 3 is from season 2.
