They state that the reason is that they can't afford to keep the site up.
How much does it cost to host? A couple a bucks a month? It's ok to pay that much for hobbies you like. If you don't enjoy it anymore for the cost, then I guess there's no point in doing it but don't say you're closing shop because you can't afford the website hosting fees.
P.S. I never heard of this site before today.
edit: I think I could've' a bit insensitive posting this. Maybe the site owner really does needs some funds.

Couple bucks a month? Yea right. For a no-questions-asked datacenter and a non-virtualised machine like this site would have to be hosted on, you'd probably be looking at $30-50, not a couple.

It's basically a wordpress site with the actual hosting paid by hosters such as mega.nz, etc.

I have hosting with Nearly Free Speech, which is basically the cheapest host available, and I pay ~$10/month for a mobile site that hosts only images and text for around 5000 users. If these guys are hosting video files for a similar user base they're paying a lot more than that

Ah, might be substantially cheaper then. Even then, I only cough up the $120/year because it's good for my CV, this guy probably thought he could pull some advertising money but maybe that didn't work out.
