Hey guys, just wanted to know your opinion on what kinda bots we need on this sub. AutoModerator is cool, and can do a lot of things like remove/approve submission based on content, domain name of the link etc. But for more complex things, we need to add bots which will take care of those.
So, I'm gonna list some ideas I had for bots, feel free to suggest your own in the comments.
Check if a request already has an existing link on the sub, reply with the link if found and set the appropriate flair
Regular deletion of dead links (would need to access MEGA api, might be a lil complex).
Assign user flairs (based on link karma or comment karma etc)
Grab screenshots of a video link (TV or Movie) posted and reply with the imgur album link.
Grab english subtitles for a video link posted (from addic7ed or opensubtitles), upload that to MEGA and post the link as a reply.
I've already tried implementing some of these tasks in Python with some success. Do post your opinions on these/other ideas for potential bots
Cheers!
All request posts go into a single request thread
A flair for choosing [TV] [MOVIE].......

Possibly a way to collect requests if multiple are made for the same thing and I don't know how possible this is but maybe a priority list of the most requested items. Also a way to collect together all uploads of a certain file. So if one person uploads a film in 720 and someone else in 1080 then they get combined as one post with both links in.

Collecting the links for diff versions of the same file can be tricky, since different people use different title patterns, and most of the upload posts aren't flaired.

IMDb-Links for movies and TV-shows. Doesn't have /r/movies something like that?
[-] indigo6alpha | 5 points
Not sure about /r/movies, but /r/fullmoviesonyoutube has u/MovieGuide which provides IMDB info. I've contacted the maintainer of that bot about adding r/megalinks to it's list

One bot could go to requests and search through the subreddit for them and tell them whether or not exists now the bot does not know if the link is down so he will only share the link and tell the person if its down keep the post or if not to delete the post and use the search button under no circumstance should this bot delete posts though

under no circumstance should this bot delete posts though
At this point, we're trying to get non-mod bots to help out on this subreddit. So it won't have the permission to delete (purposefully or by accident) posts (I know most of the ideas I've listed above will need mod access, but we're trying to get simpler ones to work first).
I know python, but that's about as useful as I can be. I'm still thinking a pinned weekly requests thread would be perfect and that can be done just using IF This Then That (IFTTT)

Bots are usually python scripts that are run periodically with the help of cron jobs. So, any help would be really appreciated. I'll PM you once we've decided on the specifics.
subtitles are an awesome idea.
Looking for links and autotagging as filled is very problematic, because when I post a request, the existing links are usually dead or shitty quality. And a "filled" tag might drive away possible uploaders.
I'm not 100% on board with automatically replying as I've requested better quality versions of films already on here and been linked back to the same uploads despite asking for a high quality than previously uploaded
'Remind Me' bot. How about that? Some uploaders mention they are uploading an alternate version of same file, say 1080p. One could call reminder bot to check the post again in a day or two.

i usually struggle with finding mirrors between the comments.
We need a bot that auto-deletes requests for shows that are posted within the first 3-4 hours after it has aired.
I think it's incredibly rude to post a [request] thread when the show has literally just aired within the last hour.
I see people post before a show has aired and within minutes after a show has completed.
Maybe this can be resolved through a permanent sticky, but I think that there needs to be a way to communicate to both new and old users of this subreddit.
I think this could (and probably should) only apply to the most popular/oft-requested shows.

Yes, I think we'll have to put up a sticky about this and hope that people will oblige, coz it's a very complex task for a bot to determine whether the requested show has aired or not. But I'll look into that. Thanks for your input!

These are awesome ideas! For a regular user the most useful would definitely be the regular deletion of links expired/dead links.
This sub is great. Thanks to everyone who makes this a go-to place to find great content.
