[Question] What does "iTunes ready" mean? | Megalinks MegaDB [Question] What does "iTunes ready" mean?

I'm a windows user and not much familiar with iOS apps. I've seen it mentioned in many video files uploaded here and wanted to know what it means.

The video encoding has to meet certain criteria to play back properly on iDevices.

iTunes video files are pretty much the same as many mp4s in container and codec structure (8-bit H264 video, AAC audio), except they have the extension m4v. That doesn't necessarily mean you can take any mp4 and rename it's extension and get something that plays on iTunes/iPhones, hence people releasing special "iTunes ready" versions.

Also, there are sub criteria that apply to certain iDevcies. Like some iPods don't support above h264/Main, or don't support HD resolutions, etc. iTunes is aware of these restrictions on a model by model basis and will tell you if a file will not play back on your device.
