guys, relax and read the article. They were court ordered to share data on a hacker. the courts could care less about your tv shows.

For everyone coming to the comments instead of reading the article:

UNLESS YOU WERE ONE OF THE 100 OR SO PEOPLE WHO UPLOADED HACKED DOCUMENTS FROM THE KAZAKH GOVERNMENT LAST YEAR, THIS DOES NOT EFFECT YOU IN ANY WAY.

the tl;dr of the article is that Mega is being forced to turn over the information they have on the people who uploaded hacked documents and files stolen from the government of Kazakhstan last year. Mega doesnt like it because they think it violates the privacy promises they make to their users, and the government hasn't proven that the people who uploaded it were the ones who stole it in the first place. NZ said that allowing access to this information for the purpose of this investigation is not the same as violating a person's personal files and effects, i.e. a phone or personal computer storage.

But it sets a dangerous precedent that the government can even request IP addresses and force Mega to reveal them. Because you know they will eventually serve the interests of the RIAA and MPAA which is far more important than national security.

So if our accounts were newer (as in made this year) the gov wouldn't care about them bc the hacks happened in 2014?

NOTE: in the US, even if law enforcement gets your IP, there's still 'reasonable doubt' as to whether that means a particular person.

Here's an article that says that once you point out that IP addresses identify computers rather than people, the RIAA will cease a lawsuit against you.

No, but you might consider going to doctor about that.
