[TIP] VLC Plays .rar Files! | Megalinks MegaDB [TIP] VLC Plays .rar Files!

I have gotten a few PM's of people complaining about files being .rar and not a video file complaining that you have to unrar first before watching, well if you are just going to watch it on your pc, just open the file with VLC, it can play it without extracting it.

People are complaining about having to extract a file they got for free? Just lol

I will never complain. But 'back in the day' with rapidshare rars, if one was bad then you could not extract them all, also people could put an exe file in there. TBH I am just grateful for the shares. But some p2p site ban rars for the reasons given

I didn't complain and I'm not complaining now, but when a video Is a rar file I can't stream it and sometimes I can't extract it because the lack of free space on my old device (mobile)

So, logically I prefer video files uncompressed, but it not a big deal.

Yea right, here have a laugh at this lazy tard:

newhavenlao 2 points 12 hours ago Thank you for the upload but can you not have it as a .rar file? Its cumbersome to extract then delete it again.

Well /u/newhavenlao can go and fuck himself tbh. Complaining about unraring a file and then deleting it afterwards? Fucking unbelievable. Perhaps he wants you to go round to his place and watch it for him too?

Why? Just to mess with some newbies?

Also to make DMCA takedowns harder.

not only that but It takes little to no time to extract if you use 7zip.

Honestly man. The nerve of complaining they have to unrar a movie when you took the time to host it.

Delete message and dont give them a second thought

I wouldn't dare to complain about this, but there's a reason I prefer/need uncompressed files: To stream them directly from mega with megasync. That way I can be sure to technically not break any laws, whereas downloading is illegal (where I'm from)

Sorry that is how they are released if I actually downloaded then unrared then uploaded I would never be able to post anything

Sure, of course I can't ask any of you to do any extra work for folks like me as long as I don't do anything for you, I just wanted to explain the advantages of uncompressed files.

I'm like 99% sure downloading would also be fine if I understand mega's business model correctly (they don't give out user info and your files are encrypted). That should mean it's impossible for any weasel lawyers to find people, but I still rather not take any risks and stick to the uncompressed files I can stream.

Thanks for the explanation though!

Streaming and Downloading won't be any different if someone is actually watching you. In both cases they would see a data connection from your IP to mega's servers. The streaming option just plays it as it is downloading and deletes it when you close it.

It's not likely that you are actually being watched in that way, unless you're in China or something (I'm guessing Germany from your post history?)

I know there technically isn't much of a difference between streaming and downloading, but there is a legal difference (in Germany, you're right about that).

Courts in precedent cases have interpreted the law that bans to make a copy of a copyrighted file on your hard drive to not include streams, because at no point in time there is a complete and usable copy of the file on your pc and the temporary download of segments is just a necessity for viewing the file.

Therefore, with current laws, streaming is legal, downloads are not. Eventhough that doesn't make too much sense to be honest, but that's not my problem.

As I said, I'm pretty sure the lawyers won't be able to legally find out what I download from mega and mega afaik doesn't give up user data. I'm still careful.

Thanks for the tip, I've been unzipping just the playable file and subtitles for years.

It can even play files while they are being downloaded from anywhere, and don't forget if you just wanna watch something you're not going to keep, stream it with VLC through [MEGAsync] (http://www.techspot.com/downloads/downloadnow/6238/?evp=6c8065dabaf305a1353b22f5790fdf53&file=1) It streams .rar files to, so no need to download or extract at all!

I use winzip and just open them in no time and play them.
