Maybe this is a good place to ask this: What exactly are iTunes ready files? What's the difference?

I just convert the files I download to mp4 and add the relevant metadata so it looks good in iTunes.

could you explain how to do that for some of the tech illiterate ?

Go to the movies section in iTunes and it should be there.

Can you put the audio info in the titles of your iTunes ready movies? I prefer 1080p with 5.1 audio and will grab that version over others, but I'm never sure if the iTunes ready ones are only stereo audio or are 5.1...

So, what makes mkv better than mp4? Personally, I can stream to almost all of my devices without transcoding if the video is mp4, but not if its mkv

Why wouldn't people? Also, why mkv? I'm out of the pirate scene. JW

MKV files usually come with subtitles, chapters and alternate audio tracks all in one. You can also strip out the parts that you don't want with MKVMerge to make the file size smaller.
