you are not alone
I tried uploading a... DVD backup, but it was only uploading at like 80KB/s (I have a 50Mb up/down connection). After about 4 hours it froze and I couldn't resume.

It';s beta and was hit like a super nova mother fucker when it was announced, it's going to be a few days but the wait will be worth it.

Another problem is the horrible internet that New Zealand has. I think I heard something about Kim Dotcom wanting to privately help improve the network.

Obviously, it's slow for everyone, the data center is going to be under huge load during these first few days no matter where you live lol.

I could easily be wrong but I was almost sure that his activity was based in New Zealand (Or was that limited to megaupload?)

I don't know where people are getting the idea that all of his stuff is in NZ just because he is there. The beauty of the internet is that you can host your stuff anywhere lol.
Look it up, he says very clearly in an interview that as of right now it is hosted in Germany. This isn't rocket science.
