FYI, if everyone has the key, uploading content to Mega is exactly the same as uploading to another host, only slower.
If the sharing community stays small enough and your account contains little personally-identifying information, what's the problem? It makes it somewhat easier, I suppose, to build "walled-garden" communities that attempt to keep out anyone that wants in to fuck it over for everyone else.
Also, I was under the impression that the slowness was a result of Mega being overloaded with traffic currently. I suspect it won't be this slow forever.
I don't really think there is a problem with sharing mega links in any community, but the idea that encryption will give you extra security when sharing in a public community like Reddit is false.

There is no security risk (except when you're taking copyrighted boobs), but there is also no security gain from the encryption.

Copyrighted boobs are the best kind of boobs.
except for the part that nobody can ask and get the content removed from the site because it's encrypted.
It's not really encrypted if you have the key, right? They can still do the same removal request along with the key to read the data. Knowing Megaupload and reading their terms, they will probably comply with such requests.
Yup, well in that situation it leaves it up to the uploaders to figure out an elaborate way to share the keys without the riaa/mpaa finding out.
therein lies the problem

That is, if they do not have the key. So what you said does prevent them from crawling Mega itself. But they do have the key if you post the link here, right? Weren't they using the same method for MegaUpload, finding links to content and place a removal request based on that link?

They could just lurk on this subreddit and other major sharing websites, and have all the keys given to them for no cost.

The point is that mega is able to say that they don't know anything about illegal data because it was encrypted

Isnt that just shifting the blame from mega to reddit?

Well not only reddit and i am sure reddit has a Paragraph in the terms oft use which protect it. Basicly reddit has a disclaimer that sayssays they aren't resbonsible for anything in the links.
