You get a notification on your MEGA account that looks like this and also an email that looks like this. Sorry for the german, that account was made behind a DE VPN but basically the german part says something like We are in receipt of a takedown notice affecting the following public link in your account.
Further ramifications could entail termination of MEGA account after getting a few too many notices (which happened to me more than a few times).
