It's ironic that people are recommending a VPN, when the entire existence of this sub is because people in poor countries can't afford VPN's. Otherwise, why not just torrent with the VPN to begin with?

Even VPN solution doesn't work for files greater than 5gb, last I've seen. Which means for any movie in high quality posted here, there is still no solution.

And if money is an option, why not get a seedbox or pay for usenet....or just pay for mega then the limit is gone too. I mean that's kind of defeating the purpose.

[-] Frodo_Bomb | 12 points | Jun 14 2017 19:14:50

Yeah the only reason I used mega instead of torrenting is because there was no risk and I didn't have to pay for a vpn. If I have to pay for a vpn now just to download at full speeds without data caps, then I might as well torrent instead, but paying defeats the purpose of pirating movies since the whole point of it is that I don't want to spend a dime.

It costs about the same as three chocolate bars per month. I eventually caved and paved when I thought of what you get for the price.

the problem is paying for it in the first place, the only payment solution i'm used to that they offer is credit card, and i don't want to give them mine or go through the hassle of making an e-card

I ended up getting it to try it out this month. At $5 a month google opinion rewards pays for it every month anyway. Its also nice just to throw everything in your cloud drive from my laptop and be able to set up downloads on my PC for Plex and stuff once I have time.

[-] shhsfootballjock | 10 points | Jun 14 2017 13:20:02

i think the temp solution was starting the download on a vpn and then once you reached that limit, switch locations and with the new ip, your download will keep going

but im not sure if this is still current.

This. I don't understand why op is asking if there is a solution when there clearly was one (several) stated in the last 30 threads (which are less than 6 months old and can still be posted in).

permalink

[-] IgnoreMyName | 10 points | Jun 14 2017 18:13:44

Because not everyone has a VPN. This is a sub dedicated to acquiring content without paying so getting a VPN isn't the solution people are looking for. It is a | Megalinks MegaDB a solution but not fitting for the theme of this sub.

permalink

[-] MarkoWolf | 3 points | Jun 14 2017 18:20:49

Oh really? I'm sorry, but I thought this sub was dedicated to content hosted on Mega. I failed to recognize ANYWHERE in this sub that the content in this sub is for acquisition without paying

I get that it can be inferred as such, but don't get on your high horse here claiming you know, for a fact, what this sub is dedicated to.

Also, the OP said NOTHING about a free solution. Merely asked for a solution.

Free VPN. Whenever the error pops up in Megadownloader I just close it, switch locations, and open up Megadownloader again. I downloaded that 100gb LOST file last week and it took me less than three days.

Yes, it will give you 12 TB in total (the whole year), with Mega assuming you will use 1TB per month.

permalink

[-] sishgupta | 6 points | Jun 14 2017 14:04:48

Are you actually watching every file as it gets posted?

Add it to your cloud drive and queue up the download.

Everything comes in eventually.

permalink

[-] rongkongcoma | 4 points | Jun 14 2017 15:17:48

Mega might take stuff down before people managed to get it all....I'm still downloading the audiobook pack from last week and futurama is also queued. That will take at least two weeks.

permalink

[-] jennyev | 2 points | Jun 14 2017 15:34:53

Why the fuck don't you just import it to your own Mega account? And then have all the time in the world to download it if you want to

permalink

[-] rongkongcoma | 3 points | Jun 14 2017 15:44:03

If the original is taken down, the imported is also taken down. It's not a copy, it's like a link.

permalink

[-] jennyev | 1 points | Jun 14 2017 15:47:59

I've never had a link taken down, but that's not the case with the with the links that got down to people I know on reddit. As long as I pay Mega for storage, I know what I store (and Mega doesn't). after I "copy" something to my account, as long as I'm not sharing it, Mega doesn't even have to know what it is.

permalink

[-] elitenls | 1 points | Jun 14 2017 18:59:11

When you copy it to your drive, if the original gets DMCA'ed you can't download your copy either. Try it with one of the TV sites out there - it'll give you an access error. The file doesn't go away, just the ability to download it.

permalink

[-] jennyev | 1 points | Jun 14 2017 19:58:44

Didn't know that, but I'm aware that some of the files I've previously imported have been DMCA'ed, but I'm able to download and share them.

Either way, you might be right. I'll have to confirm that for myself. I've imported a few TV shows and I'll see if any of them gets DMCA'ed

👍🏻

permalink

[-] rongkongcoma | 1 points | Jun 14 2017 19:51:21

If you copy it (downloading then reuploading) mega might not know what it is and it won't get taken down.

Importing it to your drive won't create a new file and if mega knows what the original is because it's posted here, and takes it down, your "copy" won't work either.

permalink

[-] sishgupta | 1 points | Jun 14 2017 15:27:28

For the most part only hot new releases get taken down. Unless they do a sweep on all accounts. It happens i guess.

One solution is having a dynamic ip, i don't think thee is any solution as good as megadownloader was. If your connection is fast enough you can download more than 5 gigs before getting the error btw.

permalink

[-] PopcornInMyTeeth | 3 points | Jun 14 2017 15:06:50

I have optimum internet and they have public wifi hotspots in NYC all over. Once I hit the limit on my wifi, I can hop over to the hot spot and grab another 5gb. Not perfect by any means, but it bumps the limit up to about 10. (I realize this isn't possible for everyone)

Lol download a large file and take a tour of the city. Cox has similar free wifi hotspots in other large cities.

Pahe.in is using something called Google Drive Sharer (drive.pahe.in) and giving out Google Drive links for their uploads.

Can't this sub use something similar and switch to Google Drive? (I am just asking in all candidness, their model seems to be holding up, please don't jump on me.)

permalink

[-] FishOnHead | 1 points | Jun 15 2017 15:40:00

You mean like that sub that already provides Google Drive links? That's my only concern with this change. This sub is primarily for Megaupload, and while we as people can switch to different hosts, as a community we either duplicate efforts other communities are already steeped in, or we lose our identity as a community. It doesn't make sense as a sub to use the variety of hosts people have provided; this isn't the only place on Reddit for this kind of media and only serves to make us more insular and abstruse to newcomers. And if that happens, the answer to "Will this sub survive?" will be "No."

Edit: I apologize if this comes off more harshly than I intended. I didn't mean to write it as an attack, just a continuation of the discussion for the direction we should take.

:)

I understand your response. It's totally fine. :)

I didn't mean to propose "let's leave MEGA behind and move to GDrive" personally, but I was kinda trying to ride the wind of "should we move to another provider?" threads. I mean, you are totally right, if some would like to move to another, let them move, this is the MEGA subreddit and should stay as such until everybody leaves (or until something similar happens).

I got you. It's fine. :)

permalink

[-] FishOnHead | 1 points | Jun 15 2017 22:48:53

Eh, the quality varies widely, and there's less content overall because Google is so draconian about monitoring the content that goes up on its servers. Many things go unnoticed, but it depends on how high profile they are.

As I mentioned, several of the movies I've found through Drive have varied in quality. Some have been exceptional, while some have been passable until I can find a replacement here or elsewhere. I'll PM you further details.

If your ISP doesn't assigned fixed IP, restarting your router or renewing your IP will also work (use megasync, let it download till it says you have to wait X hours, close it, get a new IP (or switch places on your vpn) and restart it. Voilà! Else just wait a few hours.

permalink

[-] tony_curtis_is_dead | 2 points | Jun 14 2017 14:24:35

Don't try to grab every file as its posted. It doesn't cut you off in the middle of a file, so just collect links and group your downloads daily, or every 8 hours or whatever, and start them all at once (using megadownloader here). The only time this is really a problem is if you're grabbing a season of something and its all loose files instead of a rar, as with that many simultaneous connections you might as well just wait the eight hours.

[-] lawpetex | 2 points | Jun 14 2017 16:19:49

Nope.

Even with VPN, I discovered that MEGA seems to drop on larger files i.e. cannot download 6GB files and such.

The only way out that I can see is to pay them for premium.

... I am currently looking into private trackers.

[-] InfiniteDaremo | 2 points | Jun 14 2017 16:36:47

Jdownloader. Set max download limit to how many files there are. Itll start every one of them off together and doesn't pause them mid download.

permalink

[-] throwawayadalkesfkl | 1 points | Jun 14 2017 18:05:12

does that actually work? anyone can confirm?

permalink

[-] HoneyFoxxx | 3 points | Jun 14 2017 20:21:42

For me this kind of works. The downloads don't stop once they have been started, but sometimes they will not start due to "Bandwidth exceeded error".

permalink

[-] InfiniteDaremo | 1 points | Jun 15 2017 07:26:14

Its a free download with no shovelware accompanying it. You will hit the max download limit if you started 10 files but there are say 15 files, but the first 10 files will download without interruption.

I wouldn't mind waiting, but larger files won't download for me, just smaller stuff/episodic TV - this through JD2 or Mipony in OS X. Mipony countdown just cycles over and over for larger files. For those with a paid account, any issues or gotchas? Anything a new would need to look out for?
