[META] is megadownloader safe ? | Megalinks MegaDB [META] is megadownloader safe ?

every time i try to download megadownloader from this link http://megadownloaderapp.blogspot.com (i guess that is the official link from where you can get it) chrome stops the download and says that file is malware or something...

is that so or it's just a false warning?

False positive. You can download the source from the same site and look through it then build it yourself if you're really concerned but it's not necessary.

That's a good question. Here's the thing: the exes downloaded from different links on the blogspot site do not even match each other's SHA1s. On top of that, the program itself has been out for YEARS - you'd think those several false positives on Virustotal would've been cleared by now?

The answer is we can't be sure if megadownloader is safe. People have found the program to be very useful and are biased to tell you it's safe, without any valid basis.

Just to be safe, you should install it inside a sandbox with Sandboxie, or in a VM.

This is the only one i have ever used. I ran a few virus and malware scans and found nothing. Also files off of the internet archive have been checked beforehand.

Paste it into your browser, then the address will change, when the folder in mega is open, copy the URL and paste this into megadownloader.

Yes it is safe. I had the same reservations but have been using it for several months and find it generally excellent. No problems at all.

I've never had any problems with the "MegaDownloader_v1.7.exe" file that has the following sha256 hash:

Here is its page on VirusTotal:
