[META] I'm combining all the files I can find into 1 huge account ~25 TB | Megalinks MegaDB [META] I'm combining all the files I can find into 1 huge account ~25 TB

Most of the files are from the guy with the 20 TB dump. One thing I've done is compiled all his drives into one account. I want to add more files. I can't contribute by uploading because I have a 0.1 mbps upload speed connection (megabit not megabyte). However, I can do this. For that, does anyone have working links for these or any other large dumps? https://www.reddit.com/r/megalinks/comments/5f8e7f/tv_mega_x265_tv_collection_34_shows_1080p720p480p/ https://www.reddit.com/r/megalinks/comments/4l8xe6/mega_dump_57391gb/ If you don't want your link to these to be taken down, just pm me. I will make multiple back ups.

Importing to another account won't work as a backup, they've been taking down the imported copies too

Listen to this guy.

Importing dumps and posting them publicly is extremely risky | Megalinks MegaDB extremely risky because it has the potential to kill not only the mirror but the original too.

MEGA DOESN'T CHECK THE VALIDITY OF TAKEDOWN REQUESTS | Megalinks MegaDB MEGA DOESN'T CHECK THE VALIDITY OF TAKEDOWN REQUESTS

They have 2 versions of takedowns - 1 allows the files to remain on your account and the other completely removes them. This means if you post a folder containing 2 eps of Game of Thrones and 200 free use videos from youtube, them using the 2nd option can get EVERYTHING pulled.

Is there any way I can backup?? I'm thinking I should not post a link. Instead, I'll share it with trusted users' email IDs. What do you think?

Using an EXTERNAL service so it counts a reupload. Cloud->Cloud transfer for specifically requested files by text?

Could you please elaborate a little? I didn't understand what you meant

Backup? not really. like you said - you can't reupload because of your connection speed. this is the main issue with uploaders. None of them want to continually reupload content because they're more than likely using their home connections. on the other hand if you have a seedbox/vps with shell access you could use the mega cmd line client and reup as much as you want.

to put it into perspective, here's how long it would take to upload a 4GB file (assuming you reach 100% of your upload speed)

Upspeed | Time ---|--- 20Mb (Home)| 28 mins 38 seconds 100Mb (VPS/SB)| 5 mins 44 seconds 1GBit (VPS/SB)| 34 seconds

as for the sharing issue? that's really up to you. this is where we move into the "if..." territory because we can be here all day making hypothetical situations. personally I wouldn't post it publicly since it's an import of someone else's files. even if sharing it privately I'd folder separate the content as much as possible and give them their own links (instead of 1 folder link containing 100 more folders). This is more about damage mitigation than anything else. If a folder gets leaked and is targeted for takedown you want it to have as little impact on the rest of your files as possible. again - this is hypothetical best-case scenario. No amount of folder separation is going to stop a stick-up-his-ass copyright agent taking down as many links as they can find as a big fuck you to pirates (looking at you, HBO | Megalinks MegaDB HBO)

I think another important point to start making on this sub is that imports aren't reliable backups.

Imports are:

  1. A way to store content the original uploader may delete/unshare themselves

  2. A 50% chance to keep content that gets a takedown notice. If the takedown notice is the removal kind this drops to 0%.

I guess the best thing we can start doing on this sub is mark people as trusted users and then use the sharing feature on mega instead of the create link feature. By sharing, no link is created. Hence, how will someone report something? There's no way to report it as they will be shared privately. If I decide to compile all these files, I'll only share them using this method. What do you think? I also think this should be implemented to all the links on this subreddit. The only downside is that one has to manually share it with each email. But if we have a small, cohesive, and trustable community, that shouldn't be a problem.

This doesn't work if like me users aren't very active posters due to upload connection but come here to download often. This system wouldn't be able to tell if we were users wanting to download or copyright people looking to shutdown

Rent a server at Kimsufi or Hetzner or something (https://www.kimsufi.com/en/servers.xml , KS-4C for example), install virtualbox and the dkms module, install windows 7 into vbx, install chrome, download the files to the server and then reupload. You can access the machine remotely via RDP if you install VirtualBox additional stuff that you can find on their website.

So how can I create a proper back up

permalink

[-] Mortos3 | 1 points | Feb 10 2017 01:03:52

You'll have to download and re-upload so it'll be considered a different file.

[-] ThatOneDudeHere | 4 points | Feb 10 2017 04:12:34

You'd have to litterally import it all at once. Thats the only way.

so like having multiple tabs links open and importing quickly

You could share it to the OP in a PM and he could then import everything to his account, so then everyone can get your stuff through his account.
