[META] Ideas to combat this account deletion. | Megalinks MegaDB [META] Ideas to combat this account deletion.

Post ideas here that can be used in order for bots and (hopefully not) other people that are deleting our Mega accounts. Some of them are getting banned even though they only store data because Mega has the hash of the file. One of the best ideas to store is to archive the file in .rar so that the hash is removed.

If that's the case, renaming your files to something not too obvious and/or zipping them would suffice

Maybe someone working at Mega itself has found this and the people at Mega are trying to take down all accounts.

I posted timeless, fixed supergirl, flash, arrow and fixed westworld which took sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long, but i'm glad it finished because now if they are all deleted within 1 day, that means we are actually fucked and cannot recover.

I am not sure... I have been lurking for months now and importing things to my account and so far what I have (which I haven't shared around here) is quite safe... I hope I am not shooting my foot here.

permalink

[-] Cartmanishere | 3 points | Dec 06 2016 16:58:56

Yeah. I don't understand how they're targeting specific accounts(people). I, for example, used VPN (so not same IP), created accounts using all different email accounts, never shared anything between the accounts, never shared links here from most of them but still every single one is suspended.

permalink

[-] bolts158 | 1 points | Dec 06 2016 19:19:14

Were the accounts that got suspended named with a similar pattern (gmail dot trick) to the other accounts and/or did it have the same password as the other accounts? You don't have to reply, it's just something to consider when trying to figure out if we're dealing with bots or humans.

permalink

[-] mike40196 | 2 points | Dec 06 2016 20:21:53

Are you using the same email (just with dots or plus) as one of your sharing account? If that's the case then maybe they're nuking every account associated with that email. I haven't shared anything and I think I'm good (I haven't checked everything though)

What is actually happening?

permalink

[-] simplefilmreviews | 14 points | Dec 06 2016 14:43:15

The main redditors who upload the content to this site are having their mega accounts banned. Which them makes all the content they've ever uploaded removed.

So not just single movies being removed, but anything uploaded by XXXXX member is banned. Which is really bad.

Mega is deleting accounts, a fuckton of accounts for copywright infringement. And that's not the worst part, Mega is deleting accounts that store files from the other accounts that get deleted because of the file hash that gets transferred when you import a file from one account to the other. In laymans terms, not only the people who are sharing the gold are getting fucked, but the people who are only hiding the gold in their home so that when in need, they can give to the community, are also getting royally fucked even though they didn't do anything wrong.

permalink

[-] rushabshah32 | 2 points | Dec 06 2016 23:04:14

Wait... So if I import files from my main account to my "release" account, and share links from the release account, there's a chance for my main account to get suspended too!? And I'll lose all my files?

permalink

[-] yazanabueid | 2 points | Dec 07 2016 00:12:52

Yep, because when you import the file from the main to the release account, Mega can use the hash of the file to find out where you imported the file from and delete that account aswell.

The sub go's private instead of public & open to public reporters.

I have two accounts gone already one was my first ever and the other one of my extra/10 accounts. The rest will probably be gone when I get home ;_; RIP

Are torrents alright?

permalink

[-] extremebs | 2 points | Dec 06 2016 17:51:07

The only reason I'm on this sub is because I can't torrent (big files) I have a 3GB seed box but that's it for torrents. If someone uploads a TV series or movie above 3GBs then I back it onto a new mega account.

permalink

[-] [deleted] | 1 points | Dec 06 2016 18:05:53

I didn't know they even did seedboxes that small.

permalink

[-] extremebs | 1 points | Dec 06 2016 18:15:55

It originally was 1.5GB but if you share an add to twitter/Facebook/pinterest/make a blog post/make a YouTube video to promote them they add more space too your account. The bigger/better the ad the more free storage you get.

[-] [deleted] | 1 points | Dec 06 2016 18:22:22

How much does it cost?

permalink

[-] extremebs | 2 points | Dec 06 2016 18:33:15

Free (ny current account) but if you want to upgrade...

There are 3 packages:

Basic for $6.95 and 30GB

Pro for $9.95 and 100GB

Master for 19.95 and 1TB

I found the site

[-] Kiwus256 | 2 points | Dec 06 2016 22:32:12

There are other sites that you might find adquate: https://offcloud.com/ This one gives 10gb, 3 links per month for free. https://www.bytesloader.com Free and unlimited but still has issues and the files are deleted after sometime. There are other free options if u look but I've personally used these and seedr.cc

Thanks. I used to have a 1.5 TB seed box for the private tracker that I use.

Am I seeing that there is a limit to how long I can have a torrent in this?

permalink

[-] Aidache | 5 points | Dec 06 2016 15:57:45

Honestly why stick to mega, post-limit-era? Ever since the download limit has been introduced it hasn't been the same.

permalink

[-] PeenuttButler | 3 points | Dec 06 2016 16:08:45

megadownloader can bypass the limit

permalink

[-] Aidache | 1 points | Dec 06 2016 16:35:55

yeah, I know, I have been using it for a while now, but for instance I can't use jdownloader to add large 5+ rar part files. and it takes longer to add each file etc. It's not the same. (before anyone says, adding more than like 3 files gets a red ERROR text, so i tend to download through idm using the streaming option.)

permalink

[-] R3a1ityCheque | 3 points | Dec 06 2016 16:29:55

Fair point.

What other hosts would be suitable?

Are there ones out there that are more robust in terms of taking down content and the amount of storage offered?

permalink

[-] PeenuttButler | 1 points | Dec 06 2016 16:35:43

Google Drive? I know a pirate site that use Google Drive as one of their source. You'll have to split the file into multiple zips, though. Also, there might be bandwidth limit.

permalink

[-] R3a1ityCheque | 3 points | Dec 06 2016 16:53:48

Only 5gb free storage per account as far as I remember, might be too limited for some of the bigger files.

The 50gb free allowance on Mega is what made so much of this easy.

It's a while off, but Kim Dotcom is supposed to be releasing a new successor to the original Megaupload sometime next year, I believe.

permalink

[-] LlewynDavis1 | 1 points | Dec 07 2016 00:41:07

Is mega not the successor?

permalink

[-] confesstoyou | 2 points | Dec 07 2016 00:59:37

Mega was the original successor, but Kim Dotcom had some sort of falling out with them, and has more recently promised to make a new successor which will restore the accounts (though not the files) of the original Megaupload, and be more secure than Mega. Something to do with uploads and downloads being tied to Bitcoin transactions or something.

permalink

[-] kolt54321 | 1 points | Dec 06 2016 22:24:46

YGPM. No bandwidth limit for google drive, far as I know.

permalink

[-] Ethan2k16 | 1 points | Dec 06 2016 18:16:17

I don't know which ones would be more suitable but I'm sure we can find one that retains files longer then MEGA does.

Perhaps a sub that allows links to decent (no wait time, download limits, ...) file hosts could be started.

After a while, it will then become easy to tell which hosts are best at retaining files.

I think we could upload the content and then advertise the content on the sub saying 'Hey Guys! I've got this uploaded, if anybody want this then holla'. The people can request for the links to the OP and then OP can PM the links. Thus the actual links are never shared over the sub. One user already made a post like I described.

permalink

[-] kolt54321 | 1 points | Dec 06 2016 22:26:14

This. If he can also share how he makes each link unique, and/or have a bot that replies to each PM with a unique link, we can keep this sub going - whoever's suspending the accounts will be able to be identified easily.

permalink

[-] TheGoodSheep | 1 points | Dec 07 2016 10:51:22

Totally kills this sub. Nobody wants the hassle to write PMs to people to download something. Also I don't think the Uploaders fancy answering people all day.

IMO this sub should at least be private and allow only people with a decent account (age or karma), no lurkers.
Added to this could be some kind of bot you have to say hello to so it gives you the link to the download. This way, when a user basically downloads everything, the mods can track who downloaded what and can ban users who behave suspiciously from the sub.

Just an idea, I'm not a coder, so I have no clue how difficult this is^^

The Mega team indicated that some companies, such as film studios, will have direct access to remove files if they discover the encryption keys online and determine that the content infringes their copyright. Dotcom added that if such companies want to use that tool they would have to agree, prior to receiving access, not to sue Mega or hold the site accountable for the actions of its users

How about if we edit the links, change the filename, and zip the file(s)? Edit the link to not include "https://mega.nz/#!" since the majority of links begin with that. Renaming the file will still generate the same exact hash. Zipping it will create a different hash.

permalink

[-] yazanabueid | 2 points | Dec 06 2016 15:42:56

what do you guys think about changing the language of the sub to something like chinese for example. I've seen other sites in spanish, japanese and chinese, they upload lots of things to MEGA and everything is ok so far, so we could find a way to camouflage (at least the links and the encription key) using another language, it can even be klingon if you want.

if it's people you, buy some hedges, make a new sub and make it where you let people gain access in small numbers, keep a list, when stuff starts to disappear again, you trim the hedges and drop the last few that joined, if it still happens you drop some more....

You will have to decide if it's the content you are protecting or users rights to the content.

then you have to assume that people aren't just pasting crap everywhere, which I'm sure happens. because then you have links go down, that aren't even linked to any activity on your sub, because someone posted a paste.com page for a friend to get caught up on Firefly...

Wait, I think Tyleralderiondurden is right...if it's people you're fucked in the ling run
